The Pelvic Floor’s Role in Achieving Stronger, More Satisfying Orgasms

As a pelvic floor physical therapist, my mission is to help individuals like you achieve greater orgasms and sexual satisfaction through the promotion of a healthy pelvic floor regardless of your gender. Let’s dive into the wonderful world of pelvic floor health and its connection to achieving stronger, more satisfying orgasms.

Understanding Orgasms and the Pelvic Floor

As a group of muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues, the pelvic floor acts as a supportive hammock at the base of your pelvis. It plays a pivotal role in the proper functioning of the bladder, rectum, and sexual organs, and it’s intimately connected to the pleasure of orgasms.

Your pelvic floor muscles are the unsung heroes when it comes to enhancing sexual pleasure. They promote healthy blood flow, maintain muscle tone, and facilitate nerve response in the genital region. By strengthening and maintaining the flexibility of your pelvic floor, you can experience more intense and satisfying orgasms. However, a weakened or imbalanced pelvic floor can lead to difficulties in achieving or experiencing orgasms.

3 Pelvic Floor Exercises for Better Orgasms

There are several pelvic floor exercises that can help improve your sexual wellness and unlock the full potential of your orgasms. These exercises are gender-neutral and inclusive, ensuring that everyone can benefit from them as long as they’ve been vetted and approved by your healthcare providers.

1. Kegels
Kegel exercises are a fantastic way to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles, should they need it. To begin, identify the muscles involved by imagining stopping the flow of urine or tightening the muscles that prevent passing gas. Contract and hold these muscles for a count of five, then relax for a count of five. Aim for ten repetitions, three times a day.

(Note: Kegels aren’t for everyone! Check with a qualified pelvic floor specialist before beginning any new pelvic floor exercise regimen.)

2. Bridge Pose
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Lift your hips off the ground, engaging your glutes and pelvic floor muscles. Hold for a few seconds, then gently lower your hips back down. Repeat this exercise ten times, aiming for two to three sets.

3. Deep Squats
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lower your body into a deep squat, keeping your back straight and your knees aligned with your toes. As you squat down, imagine engaging your pelvic floor muscles. Rise back up to the starting position and repeat this exercise for ten reps, aiming for two to three sets.

Treatment Options for Better Orgasms

In addition to at-home exercises, expert-led treatment options can also help you on your journey to optimal pelvic floor health and enhanced orgasms:

1. Personalized Exercises and Treatment Techniques
Seeking guidance from a pelvic floor physical therapist (like me!) can be beneficial, especially if you’re experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction or want personalized advice to help with any personal pains or struggles you face with sexual satisfaction. A professional assessment, targeted exercises, and treatment techniques tailored to your needs can make a significant difference in your sexual wellness.

2. Biofeedback
Biofeedback therapy utilizes sensors and devices to provide visual or auditory cues, helping you become more aware of your pelvic floor muscles and their activity. It’s a powerful tool that can improve pelvic floor control and coordination, ultimately leading to more satisfying orgasms.

3. Relaxation Techniques
Stress and tension can hinder the pelvic floor’s function and interfere with orgasmic response. Incorporating relaxation techniques like deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga into your daily routine can release tension, promote a healthier pelvic floor, and enhance your sexual experiences.

Remember, you are deserving of sexual satisfaction, and your pelvic floor can be a vital ally on this incredible journey!
