Dr. Laura Meihofer is a licensed physical therapist whose goal is to use her passion and knowledge to empower others to take control of their future. She is able to do this thanks to her extensive experience as a pelvic floor physical therapist, athletic trainer, and yoga instructor. She has tackled the most complex pelvic floor cases during her doctorate program and years of patient care, research, and education at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Additionally, Dr. Meihofer has fought her own share of health battles. After being diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease, an autoimmune disease that affects the thyroid, she got first-hand experience of the struggles many patients face—diagnosis, overhauling your diet and exercise routine, learning about ingredients in products and food, and the fear of not truly knowing what’s happening. However, Dr. Meihofer found the silver lining: With this experience, she is able to better empathize with her patients, and use what she’s learned from her diagnosis to help patients in their own health journeys.
This involves minimizing the toxic load your body experiences, something that is applicable across many conditions and allows Dr. Meihofer to provide an even more holistic form of treatment. She is also able to help encourage and provide resources to patients that can help them advocate a proper diagnosis for themselves, especially in this difficult and confusing healthcare system.
Hashimoto’s disease isn’t the only curveball life has thrown at Dr. Meihofer. Her mother has had frontotemporal dementia for over 12 years, and lives at home on hospice. Through this difficult diagnosis of a dear family member, Dr. Meihofer has gained valuable knowledge about the aging process, how to navigate the healthcare system, valuing the quality of one’s life (vs quantity), caregiver burnout, and much, much more. Although these experiences are difficult, Dr. Meihofer believes it would be a huge loss to not share the information she has learned surrounding this difficult topic—information that could help others in the same boat. To honor her mission of improving health through knowledge and movement, Dr. Meihofer uses her own experiences with aging parents to help others learn how to better navigate this important period of life, for themselves and their loved ones.
With these experiences under her belt, Dr. Meihofer aims to provide holistic, educational treatment to patients of all ages—allowing them to be better equipped for whatever health struggles they may tackle in their lives. In addition to offering inclusive patient care through her private practice, Dr. Meihofer is passionate about creating accessible resources, education, and products for individuals suffering from physical therapy needs or pelvic floor dysfunction.
She believes that with the right tools and motivation, everyone can start their health journey! Personal wellness does not follow a straight line—and rarely is there a one-size-fits-all recipe. Dr. Meihofer hopes to challenge the status quo by inspiring courage, vulnerability, and connection while motivating you throughout your health journey.
No matter the condition—bladder leakage, constipation, painful sex, erectile dysfunction, low libido, and so on—Dr. Meihofer is dedicated to getting to the root of your symptoms, and works to demystify the pelvic floor. Searching for information or talking to a specialist about pelvic floor conditions should not be difficult, embarrassing, or shameful. After all, pelvic floor dysfunction is extremely common! Therefore, Dr. Meihofer is lifting the lid on formerly taboo topics both in online spaces and in her office.
Dr. Laura works to make each and every patient feel welcome and comfortable. She keeps it both professional and accessible, even utilizing phrases such as “pooping” and “peeing your pants,” leaving absolutely no room for shame. Dr. Meihofer is eager to do whatever it takes to help you better understand and improve your own health!
As mentioned before, she strongly values providing knowledge and education during treatment, helping patients better understand their own unique condition and how physical therapy can treat or manage it. Therefore, she doesn’t waste time with complex medical jargon and instead provides her patients with the resources they need to change their lives for the better.
Dr. Laura Meihofer is extremely passionate about pelvic floor health, and believes that health, activity, and mobility is possible at every age. If you’re ready to take the first step for your own pelvic floor health journey, schedule a discovery call or book a session below!
